Matt Stillwell - "Hey Dad"

Take a listen to this new song from the "Shine" singer and hear why he's releasing a song like this now, just in time for Father's day

From Matt Stillwell:

I wrote "Hey Dad" with Lynn Hutton ("Shine") in January after I lost my dad in December. I can remember saying to Lynn, while we were writing the song, that it was going to help a lot of people. I'm more used to helping people have a great time ("Shine," "Cold Beer," "Dirt Road Dancing"...), so this has been a refreshing and fulfilling experience for me. This is the first time that I have felt the healing power of music. This song has been and continues to be a tangible thing that allows me to always have a piece of my dad with me, it gives me a great reason to talk about my dad, and it allows me the space and time to grieve and remember my dad. For the first time I know in my heart this song is going to help people because its helped me. I hope that you feel compelled to share this song and the upcoming video with your family and friends. I hope that if you've lost a love one this helps you remember them in a great way. I hope if you still have your dad this makes you think of him and hopefully call, or better yet, hug and tell him you love him.

I've included the lyrics to "Hey Dad" below. It's about as close of a description of my dad, and the relationship my brothers and I had with him as we could put into song. This song also reminds me of hard working men, not just from Western North Carolina, but all over the country. We all learned by example that there is no substitute for hard work, no matter what you may be going through or what your obstacles may be. That's the one thing that you can control. Work your butt off and what is suppose to happen will happen. My dad loved me, my brothers, my mom, and his grand kids more than anything else in the world. Luckily he told and showed us every chance he got. We couldn't be more blessed to have had a dad like dad and I'm happy to share who he was to us for the rest of my life.
