After being with a major label for the release of a well-received pair of albums and semi-independent EP release last year, SMO signed with Average Joes, the powerhouse label which has featured, at one point or another, most of the top artists in the Country/Hip Hop genre. It’s the right pairing and the right path for the superstar.
This One’s For You features a dozen tracks including “Boss 2.0,” the album’s first single. The album features production from David Ray, Eric “WeeWee” Flemming and DJ Orig.” The record is 100%, 100-proof old school SMO. The goal for “This One’s For You was to release a record which would be a legendary part of his fan’s lives. SMO serves as a co-writer on each of the 12 tracks.
The album features prideful anthem “How I Roll” with Colt Ford and David Ray, a chronicle of SMO’s cannabis journey on “Colorado Bound” with (who else but) Afroman and the track “Tear Da Mud Up,” featuring DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia. Cypress Spring and D-Ray guest on “Bone Splitta” and the title track “This One’s For You,” which describes what the record is about: The fans, his kinfolke.
“As always, I have handcrafted a buffet of backwood adventures and life lessons for my kinfoke to enjoy," said SMO. "This album is a true representation of where I am in life as a man, a father, a son, and a leader for my people.”
In addition to releasing This One’s For You last week, he has also released his autobiography, My Life In A Jar: The Book Of SMO. The hard cover of the book will release in September after the e-book rollout the past week. The book was co-written with noted biographer Jake Brown, best-known around here for his pair of Nashville Songwriter books.
