45th ACM Awards Nominees Announced

It looks as if 2010 will be the Year of Lady Antebellum as the trio not only has the year's best-selling album so far but they've also now earned top-dog status with 7 ACM Award Nominations, leading the pack but closely followed by Zac, Carrie and Miranda with 6 each.

During a live telecast earlier this morning, Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton announced the nominations for the 45th ACM Awards .  Leading the way this year was Lady Antebellum with a surprising  seven nominations in five categories, including one in the Album of the Year category for their two-year-old debut album Lady Antebellum.  Following Lady A with six nominations each were Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Zac Brown (who got group, producer and songwriter nominations).

Lady A scored seven nominations including, top vocal group, Album, single, song, and video.  As writers and co-producers they each picked up additional nominations to give them the seven nominations.  Why can they get seven nominations in five slots? Well, the ACM allows for such things if they write and produce the recordings (or direct the video) in addition to being the artists.

Miranda Lambert is up for top female vocalist and album of the year for Revolution while “White Liar” is up for single and song.  Since she co-wrote them, she gets the additional nominations there.    Carrie’s nominations  included album of the year, for Play On, and female vocalist, entertainer and for “Cowboy Casanova” as both a writer and artist in the song of the year category.  The single also earned a nomination.  Carrie is alo up for vocal event with Randy Travis (for probably the last time for “I Told You So”).

Zac Brown is nominated for six awards while he joins his band on four including a surprising, but well-deserved, inclusion in the expanded Entertainer of the Year list. The super-talented group is also up for Vocal Group, Album for The Foundation, for “Toes” and Song for “Toes.” Zac gets producer nominations for album and song while also getting a songwriter credit for song as well.

Taylor Swift received five nominations including a spot in the Entertainer of the Year category, a category which was expanded, Oscar-like, to eight contestants.  Kenny Chensey and Brad Paisley followed with four nominations each.

Billy Currington’s “People Are Crazy” is up for single and song of the year while David Nail’s “Red Light” is up for single.  Brad Paisley is in the entertainer and top male vocalist while his album American Saturday Night is up for album of the year.  Paisley also scored a video of the year nomination for “Welcome To The Future.”

Kenny Chesney rightfully scored an Entertainer of the Year nomination (which he’s won four other times) and netted a top male vocalist.  He’s also nominated as an artist/producer for vocal event with Buddy Cannon and Dave Matthews for the strong single “I’m Alive.”

Entertainer of the Year is rounded out by Toby Keith, George Strait and Keith Urban.  The category’s winner will be determined by online voting by the fans.  The Top New Artist category will also go to the fans.   Montgomery Gentry is already a winner of an ACM Award as they get the ACM/Home Depot Humanitarian Award for all their charitable contributions over the years.

Reba McEntire will host the event live from Las Vegas on April 18, 2010.  CBS will broadcast the award show.
