Hunter Hayes - "21"

Take a listen to Hunter Hayes' new single from his forthcoming third album and also see what we have to say about the brand new track!

Now, here's a surprise. When we last heard from Hunter, he was singing about Tattoos. Now they still young singer is singing about living carefree with the one you love. That's a theme he's explored before, right? Well, sure. "Tattoo" kinda did that and so did "I Want Crazy." But with "21," Hunter has done something few artists ever do. He changed lyrics of a song co-written by top songwriters Dallas Davidson, Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley and made it fit him. Now, instead of a very good song that could fit any singer on the charts, Hunter's song befits a still younger artist singing about living life everyday like you just turned 21.

"21" probably shouldn't work but it absolutely does and if there were murmurs of Hunter's career seemingly having "peaked" after what amounted to a "Sophomore slump" with his second album Storyline, well, then, "21" will end those murmurs. Actually, many artists would take Hunter's "Slump" of a handful of Top 20 hits (one Gold and Grammy-nominated and a record that has sold nearly 200,000 copies as regular album results, not some slump).

"21" is current without following trends. It has a delicious melody and and an easygoing vocal from Hunter Hayes. Anyway one slices it, "21" is youthful but it fits Hunter Hayes, his fans will adore it and, more importantly, people who haven't always liked his music (if at all) will probably wind up liking it too.
