Little Big Town - "Girl Crush"

The likely second single from "Pain Killer" is one of the year's best album's clear highlights.

Powerful and honest, "Girl Crush" is set to be Little Big Town's second single from Pain Killer once "Day Drinking" has finished its run up the charts. A clear highlight on an album of highlights, "Girl Crush" is mostly a vocal solo for Karen Fairchild and in the chorus the band's tight, pristine harmonies in the chorus accentuate Fairchild's impeccable lead. It's the kind of showstopper that all singers want in their arsenal and I can totally see soul and pop vocalists looking to cut the song in the future.

Between the cleverly spun lyrics and melody from Lori McKenna, Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey and Jay Joyce's unique production, the song certainly stands out. Add in Fairchild's powerful Bonnie Raitt-like performance and what you have is a clear early contender for ACM and CMA Single and Song of the Year award nominations. Yep, it's that good.
