Working with Patrick Damphier (Aaron Lee Tasjan; Tim Easton) as his vocal producer and engineer, Bern Kelly has produced the new single "Gotta Stay.” a new song that sounds as good as anything I’ve heard in the past year or two. Set for wide release on February 4, 2022 on Underpass Records, the single features Bern Kelly on vocals and guitar and features Ben Dumas on drums and Travis Vance on bass with the one and only Larissia Murphy providing the duet vocal on “Gotta Stay.”
I’m always excited to share new music and “Gotta Stay” is one such song and I look forward to his future music while digging into his older projects, 2020’s Fantastic Stories and 2017’s Lost Films. The song is the second collaboration between Kelly and Murphy as they co-wrote Larissia’s 2015 single, “Late One Night,” a song produced by iconic Nashville session guitarist Tom Bukovac and featured on Murphy’s debut EP Speak Now.
“The hope and despair in these lyrics always got such a visceral reaction when I played it live” says Kelly. I had two separate occasions where someone told me it felt like I was talking about them. This is kind of the ultimate goal as a songwriter and it gave me the idea to take it further and reimagine it as duet.”
“Larissia is a dear friend of mine and has long been one of my favorite vocalists. Her performance brings this song to life like I couldn’t have imagined.”
