Morgan Wallen Dominates Charts For Second Week

Morgan Wallan's "Dangerous: The Double Album" has amassed 424,000 equivalent album unit sales in two weeks.

Despite moments where he seemed to be utterly unaware of who he was and acting like he shouldn’t have been, Big Loud/Republic Recording artist Morgan Wallen’s past two years as an artist has been nothing short of the definition of “rocket ship.” As in he’s on a rocket ship to superstardom and even those indiscretions (partying too much on Broadway in Nashville and hanging out massless with coeds in Tuscaloosa during a pandemic) have a feel of being in his rearview. As such, it’s no surprise, then, that the singer behind fall’s surprise Billboard Hot 100 Singles #1 “7 Summers” would find his sophomore album project, Dangerous: The Double Album on the top of the charts for a second week.

Wallen is the first country artist since Chris Stapleton (Traveller) in 2015 to spend two weeks at #1. Luke Bryan was the other most-recent country artist to top the chart -- a chart mostly lead by hip hop and pop acts -- in the 'streaming era.'

Surprising nobody whose been watching the charts, Wallen has maintained his place on the Billboard 200 chart thanks to the thirty tracks that pace his album. Including the #1 hit “More Than My Hometown” and the aforementioned “7 Summers,” the album has a wide variety of songs that fall into the “bro,” “boyfriend” and straight up country songs categories along with the country album version of the Platinum single “Heartless” with Diplo, the two disc collection is a wide variety of songs and certainly the mass appeal of the artist’s music itself as he set records a week ago with the largest streaming week for a country album in history.

Wallen also set a bar in all genres and streaming platforms as he broke records worldwide with most first-week streams and on-demand Alexa requests of any country album on Amazon Music, had the most-added artist station across all genres in Pandora and was in the Top 10 most streamed. 27 of the album’s 30 tracks debuted inside the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, with six in the top 10, a massive new record. “Wasted On You,” another early favorite from the album, debuted at #1 making Morgan the only artist with multiple #1 song debuts in the chart’s history. The song also follows “7 Summers” by debuting in the all-genre Hot 100 Songs Top 10, where it hit #9. Finally, Morgan is the first artist to have a song and album debut at #1 on the Top Country Albums and Hot Country Songs charts simultaneously.

Wallen’s album’s two weeks of consumption is approaching 500,000 album equivalent in total consumption, which is remarkable and given how the RIAA works with double album “sales” for certification, Dangerous: The Double Album is virtually platinum in just two weeks on the market. That, is a remarkable feat that puts Wallen in the rare aire of artists like Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks to amass such sales numbers so quickly.
