Now in his mid 80's, Willie Nelson's late career resurgence is a marvel in any way, shape or form. At a time when many artists simply live out a nice, semi-retired life, Nelson is working harder than ever with at least a couple "albums in the works at least a couple of albums in the works at all times. For his latest album, Willie is set to release Ride Me Back Home, the third in a "trilogy" of sorts with songs that deal with all the stages of life.

Set to be released Friday, June 21, 2019, the album is the 13th recording released via Legacy Recordings and will be available in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats and you can hear the title track, a song co-written by Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Sonny Throckmorton expressing a love for horses and their spirituality, now. The song was inspired by Willie’s own horses, according to Buddy Cannon, the album’s producer and Nelson’s longtime friend. These horses, Cannon says, number over 60 and are all adopted and rescued from slaughterhouse and given a home on his Luck ranch.

“With Willie Nelson’s Ride Me Back Home, the artist rounds out a trilogy about mortality that began in 2017 with God’s Problem Child and was followed in 2018 with Last Man Standing,” observed American writer and music journalist Mikal Gilmore. "Ride Me Back Home, though, brings a different component of mortality into view: empathy." A reflective, upbeat journey through life, love and time's inescapable rhythms viewed from Willie's inimitable perspective, Ride Me Back Home finds the artist in full appreciation of every moment, sharing his experience in songs he’s written and songs he loves to sing. This is the 13th album that Cannon has produced for Willie in a little over a decade and the album debuts three new songs co-written by the pair:“Come On Time,” “Seven Year Itch” and “One More Song to Write.”

Along with the new songs, there are several interpretations of songs Willie just felt inspired to sing, including “It’s Hard To Be Humble” from Mac Davis, “Just The Way You Are” from Billy Joel, and a pair of Guy Clark compositions “Immigrant Eyes” and “My Favorite Picture of You” among others, including his fresh take on an older song, “Stay Away From Lonely Places.”

Ride Me Back Home follows Willie Nelson’s My Way, a record which was a musical homage to Frank Sinatra, won Nelson a Grammy and served as his 12th release for Legacy Recordings since signing with the label in 2012. His dozen releases to date have collectively sold more than a million copies.
