Gold & Platinum News: Jordan Davis, Devin Dawson, Sam Hunt Lead Latest Round of Certifications

The two country/soul newcomers join fellow country/soul stalwart in leading this month's look at new RIAA Certifications!

The RIAA has consistently been certifying album and singles and this week we learned Jordan Davis' debut Top 5 country single "Singles You Up" has been certified Gold as has Devin Dawson's own debut Top 5 country chart hit "All On Me." Sam Hunt's "Body Like A Back Road" sits at 5x platinum (five million sales plus streams). Meanwhile older songs like Florida Georgia Line's "H.O.L.Y." and Eli Young Band's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" were also certified this month for sales of 4x and 2x Platinum, respectively.

Justin Moore's "You Look Like I Need A Drink" was certified Gold while his "Lettin' The Night Roll" hit Platinum. Rascal Flatts "Yours If You Want It" was certified Gold while The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" hit 7x Platinum. The Cadillac Three scored their first Gold certification for their Top 30 hit "The South." Thomas Rhett's "Marry Me" was certified Platinum while the album which features the single, Life Changes was certified Gold

    that makes Band Perry's If I Die Young the third highest certified Country single ever the two higher than it are Florida Georgia Line's Cruise at 10 x platinum [diamond] and Taylor Swift's Love Story at 8 x platinum. multi platinum singles are the Norm now a days back in the physical era 80's through mid 2000's that wasn't the case albums sold more especially when the singles culled from them were huge hits or it was a hugely popular artist for example the first four months Mariah Carey's 1995 album daydream charted in any given week it never sold less than 100,000 copies of course the first two singles pulled from that album Fantasy and One Sweet Day with Boyz II Men spent a total of 24 weeks at #1 on the billboard Hot 100 singles chart from September 1995 to March 1996 each going 2 x platinum and making her the first female artists with back to back #1 debuts the albums 3rd US single debuted at #2 in March 1996 eventually reaching #1 in May 1996 for 2 weeks giving Mariah 11 #1's up to that point tying her with Madonna & Michael Jackson 1997's Honey tied her with The Supremes and The Beach Boys with 12 #1's she got her 13th #1 in April 1998 with My All her 14th in October 1999 with Heartbreaker her 15th in February 2000 with Thank God I Found You her 16th in May 2005 with We Belong Together her 17th in December 2005 with Don't Forget About Us which tied her with Elvis for most #1's by a Solo Artist and her 18th Touch My Body reached #1 in April 2008 giving her the 2nd most #1's behind the Beatles who have 20 from January 1964 to June 1970 shortly after they broke up Mariah has 10 albums that are triple platinum or higher released between June 1990 and April 2005 her first album was certified 5x platinum a month before sound scan started tabulating the Billboard 200 chart in April 1991
