yeah there's a percentage of that sitting in stores as there is of every album certified at any level as certs are based on shipments to retailers not what the album actually sells plus it's more confusing now since streaming is taken into account for album certifications where applicable for example Carrie Underwood's debut album Some Hearts was certified 8 x platinum a couple of weeks ago and has only sold 7.6 million albums so 400,000 are sitting on shelves or another example is when Faith Hill's 1999 album Breathe was certified 8 x platinum in April of 2003 it had sold 6.1 million copies so 1.9 million sat on shelves or when Mariah Carey's Self Titled 1990 debut album was certified 9 x platinum on 12/15/1999 it had sold 4,000,000 prior to Sound_scan being rolled out and 4.500.000 after it was used for calculating the Billboard 200 chart on the chart dated May 25th 1991

I guess I don't understand the sales numbers behind Garth Brooks The Ultimate Hits. The RIAA just certified it Diamond which means 5,000,000 copies have been shipped since it is a double disc. I know that is shipments vs actual sales, but are there really 2,500,000 copies sitting in stores?

I agree, the weekly sales report (album and singles) are cool to check out each week. This new catalog album sales chart is pretty cool too. Please keep it up!
