2016's (50th Annual) CMA Awards Nominations Released

Nominations showcase a youth movement and big nom for Carrie Underwood.

The 2016 CMA Award Nominations are out and leading the way with Eric Church, Maren Morris and Chris Stapleton leading the way with five nominations each. Morris didn’t just score her first nomination this year; she scored five, which ties her with Deana Carter (1997), K.T. Oslin (1988), and Gretchen Wilson (2004) for five nods in a debut year by a female artist. Only Kacey Musgraves has more, having received six nominations in 2013. Church is a long-time CMA Nominee while Stapleton swept every award he was nominated for last year. Dierks Bentley, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban each scored four nominations with Tim McGraw scoring three while Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Cam, Old Dominion, Brothers Osborne, and Thomas Rhett each scored a pair of nominations each. Other interesting notes on nominations include the lack of Blake Shelton in any category and Mac McAnally not being nominated in the Musician of the Year category. Also, Joey+Rory score what is their final CMA Awards nomination. The program would do well to have a tribute to Joey on the telecast and while unlikely -- editorializing here -- it'd be awesome to see Joey+Rory win this award.

@Charles sadly that's how award shows work and always have look at some of the people who get left out of the in memoriam segment at the next award show after they pass away or the choice of film clips used is surprising for instance one of the clips used for Paul Newman during the 81st Oscars in 2009 was from Mr & Mrs Bridge though sweet it was strange because that was his wife's last lead role in a film before she retired from the big screen in 1992 and for which she garnered her final Oscar nomination though Kathy Bates won

The CMA Awards once again screwed up. To Begin with why is Maranda Lambert up for Female vocalist as she has had nothing out this year ( yes she did release Vice within the last 5 weeks but that is it ). My other issue is leaving Loretta Lynn and her excellent album Full Circle out of the nominations . It has been a commercial success and well reviewed . The duet Lay Me Down by Loretta and Willie was also shut out. As far as I am concerned the CMA Awards are dead to me and will not waste my time watching the show in November. One last thing if a country music icon dies than they might get a 2 min mention on the show... Mad and very disappointed.
