The Story Behind "The Man I Was Before":
I often tell the story of how I wrote this song just before I sat down at my very first ever co-writing session. I tell of how I played it for the room full of country writers in Nashville and how they came back to me with the question: "Can we fit 'Daddy's Chevrolet' in there somewhere?" And I always end the story with: "I said no." And then we go into the song. At Thacker Mountain, I decided to start the show off this way. The crowd was warm, and welcoming, so getting a chuckle out just felt natural. We felt natural on their stage. We loved performing at The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, and hope to return soon.
