ABC Cancels "Nashville" After 4 Seasons

Music-centric program, at the heart of Nashville, TN's growth into a major international tourist destination is set to end.

With enough drama to last for years, ABC's Nashville became an instant favorite when it hit the airwaves in 2o11/2012. Four years and 86 episodes later, the network has decided to cancel the expensive series and fans aren't too happy.

Hollywood wasn't completely surprised by the decision as the ratings of the program's over the air viewings steadily decreased (while the show's ratings with DVR were up each season until the underwhelming and even more dramatic season 4.

Now, just because ABC cancelled the program doesn't mean that Lionsgate and the producers (which include star Connie Britton and ABC Studios) won't try to latch on with a cable network or streaming network.  If that happens, we'll let you know. In the meantime, the second volume of season 4 songs from the program hits stores tomorrow.

four seasons is a decent run when some shows barely run for half a season but since seasons have decreased in number of episodes Nashville won't be eligible for syndication as you need 100 episodes to be syndicated and the show only has 88 though there are examples of shows before that rule went into effect that are syndicated with as little as 80 episodes the Original Star Trek and Gilligan's Island are two examples granted Gilligan's Island ran for 99 episodes so it's syndication is understandable while ground breaking shows like Julia aren't syndicated because they didn't air enough episodes Julia only ran for 86 episodes from September 17th 1968 to March 23rd 1971
