Getting to Know Drew Baldridge

Enlighten yourself with some interesting facts about the "Dance With Ya" newcomer, told exclusively to RoughStock!

Ask anyone back into Patoka, Illinois (population 600) about Drew Baldridge, and they will likely tell you what street he lived on as a kid, his mothers maiden name, what church he went to and all about his favorite Friday night hangouts growing up. However, for the country music fans across America, we are just now getting introduced to Drew and his music, starting with his debut single “Dance With Ya.” Those who follow Drew on his socials – twitter.com/@DrewRBaldridge, facebook.com/DrewBaldridgeMusic and Snapchat (dbaldridge00) – have gotten a glimpse into some of his personality away from the spotlight, but to help fans out, Roughstock recently sat down with Drew to dig a little deeper. We asked him to share five things not that many people know about him (other than his hometown, of course!), and here is what he had to say!

1. “My dad was my teacher. He actually taught me third grade. He was also my basketball coach all through grade school, which was pretty cool. It was so funny because even though he was my dad, I still had to call him 'Mr. Baldridge' or 'Mr. B'; I couldn't call him 'Dad.' It was a little awkward for a year, coming home from school and your teacher was still there with you, knowing what your homework was and knowing what your grades were. Plus, if I did anything wrong in school – ever – my dad knew about it. We were a K-12 school. My whole life, my dad was in my school since I was in Kindergarten. So even if I did something in high school or whatever, the teacher would automatically tell my dad … oh, you know Drew did this today? He wasn't paying attention, and he was talking. It's just funny. It's small town stuff, which is how it works!”

2. “My favorite candy is Skittles.”

3. “I have broken both of my ankles and my nose playing basketball. It's pretty harsh, ain't it? I broke my left foot coming into my Freshman year. Then my Sophomore year, I broke my right. Then my Junior year, I broke my nose. I could still play with a broken nose; I just had one of those masks. I still played sports after that, I just didn't break anything. I guess because I was a Senior, and I wasn't as weak as I was all the other years [laughs]. I don't know!?”

4. “I am not afraid to admit it, but I love cartoons. I love Disney cartoons and movies, and most of the time, the music is great in them. I mean, who doesn't love them? The last one I watched was Frozen with my niece who's two, and I enjoyed it.”

5. “The only other job I've ever had besides music is mowing grass. I mean, I guess I helped my grandpa on the farm, too, but we didn't really get paid for that [laughs]! I started my own mowing business when I was 15, and me and my dad grew it up to over 30 yards. He still mows them to this day!”
