Country Albums Chart Report: February 2, 2016

Chris Stapleton's status as the #1 Country Album in the USA continues as Traveller outpaces the #2 album, Hank Williams, Jr.'s It's About Time by over 3x. Blake Shelton's Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits (which really is 21 #1's with "Gonna" being a bonus track on it) is at #3 with Sam Hunt's Montevallo at #4 The album, which was certified Double Platinum by the RIAA yesterday thanks to new streaming figures joining true album sales (not unlike formulas for singles), actually has now scanned over 1,000,000 physical copies in fan's hands. Brothers Osborne's Pawn Shop sits at #5 with two week sales standing at nearly 27k.

Top Ten Recap

At #6 we have Tangled Up, the newly ACM nominee album from Thomas Rhett while Carrie Underwood's Storyteller is at #7 with sales approaching 500k albums scanned (the album is already certified Gold). Eric Church's Mr. Misunderstood is at #8 and it, too, was nominated in the ACM Album of the Year category. Luke Bryan's Kill The Lights is at #9 while Tim McGraw's Damn Country Music sits at #10 with sales at nearly 106k.

Notables

We start our notable rundown with a report on Green River Ordinance's fantastic Fifteen (review here). Strangely, the album wasn't housed on Country's album sales chart. If it had been, it would've debuted at #7, a strong number for a still growing band in the format (who is also gaining airplay). See an interesting story about the album's charting here. Other notable albums include Don Henley's Cass County and Old Dominion's Meat And Candy, Chris Janson's Buy Me A Boat and Frank Foster. Jana Kramer's Thirty-One and Brett Eldredge's Illinois both scored sales increases while Tim McGraw's Damn Country Music is approaching 100k scanned, the same which can be said for Kelsea Ballerini's The First Time. Maren Morris' EP is on our rundown again as is Joey + Rory's Country Classics.

I think the SPS/SEA & TEA format album charts are coming soon. Silvio at BB told me to expect them sometime in 2016. With the new RIAA rules in place, this will undoubtedly speed up that process. I wish only ODS was included by the RIAA though, like they are on the BB 200, not VS. I hope BB doesn't change the Album Chart rules to include VS too, because then things will really get messy.
