Iconic Producer Billy Sherrill Dies

Known as one of the major architects of the country music of the 1960s,1970s and 1980s, Country music hall of fame member Billy Sherrill passed away in his home late Tuesday morning, as reported by The Tennessean’s Juli Thanki.

Amongst his productions are the “countrypolitan” sound which was anchored by his work with Tammy Wynette, George Jones and Charlie Rich. Some of the iconic songs Sherrill sat behind the boards for were “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes,” “Almost Persuaded,” “Stand By Your Man,” and “Behind Closed Doors,” along with producing projects for the likes of Johnny Paycheck, Shelby Lynne and Ray Charles.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Charlene, a daughter and two grand children.
