ACM Awards Impacts iTunes Sales Chart

Little Big Town and Sam Hunt are leaders inside the Top 10 thanks to CBS TV broadcast last night.

13 of the Top 50 all genre songs on the iTunes sales chart after the 3.5 hour 50th annual Academy of Country Music award show, this time from Dallas, Texas’s AT&T Stadium.

Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” was already a buzz worthy song but thanks to their high-profile feature on the show, it jumped into the Top 5 and now rests at #2 the early afternoon after the telecast. Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time” sits at #8 (it was near the Top 10 previously) while Nick Jonas’ “Chains” — performed on the show but not a country song — sits at #12 (it doesn’t count in the 13 of 50 number either).

Miranda Lambert’s “Little Red Wagon" sits at #19 with Florida Georgia Line’s “Sippin’ On Fire” at #21, Cole Swindell “Ain’t Worth The Whiskey” at #22, George Strait “Let It Go” at #27, Blake Shelton’s “Sangria” at #28, Zac Brown Band’s “Homegrown” at #31, Reba’s “Going Out Like That” at #32, Kenny Chesney’s “Wild Child” at #37, Eric Church’s “Like A Wrecking Ball” sits at #46, Jason Aldean’s “Tonight Looks Good On You” at #47, and Rascal Flatts’ “Riot” at #50.

Other country songs inside iTunes Top 100: A Thousand Horses “Smoke” at #57, Keith Urban/Eric Church “Raise ‘Em Up” at #58, Thomas Rhett “Make Me Wanna” at #64, Canaan Smith “Love You Like That” at #69, “Billy Currington “Don’t It,” 72, Lee Brice “Drinking Class” at #75, Eric Paslay “She Don’t Love You” at #76, Little Big Town “Day Drinkin’” at #77, Carrie Underwood's “Little Toy Guns” #78, Dierks Bentley's “Say You Do” at #80 and “Riser” at #82, Luke Bryan's “I See You” at #83, Tyler Farr 's“A Guy Walks into A Bar” at #85, Kelsea Ballerini at “Love Me Like You Mean It” at #92, and Brad Paisley's “Crushin’ It” at #98.

I'm not saying this will happen with "Girl Crush," as its WAY too early, but I remember the first full week of sales after the 2009 CMAs, Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" blasted up from 20 to 2 on Hot Digital Songs and from 22 to 5 on the Hot 100 prior to receiving any crossover airplay. Of course, the Top 40, Hot AC, and AC formats began jumping over the song right after Christmas, and the rest is history. "Girl Crush" has sold over half of the amount of "See You Again" for the past 14 hours, super impressive since SYA sold nearly 400k downloads last week. I'm certain GC's streaming has shot up too, but Spotify info won't be available until later today. If LBT can stay in the Top 5 all week, they would finish at #3 or #4 on HDS, and non-Country outlets would definitely take a look and a listen to the song. It's way too early to know what the song's future holds, but getting a spot on next month's BBMAs wouldn't hurt LBT.

Oh, the song always had a chance to cross over. Especially given the radio climate on pop right now is open to songs like this (Sam Hunt's "Take Your Time" too).

Carrie sing Little toy guys not Miranda. Also interesting that Luke didn't get a bug sales bump. So irritated that Mr. big teeth git the ETOY awards. Why do they allow a 3 hour texting spree during the show. Is that what it is coming too- which fan base can text the most during the show? That is truly sad.

I get the engaged fan part but during the show is crazy. Why even both w/ the 10 days leading up to it. ETOTY/NewArtist at the ACM is a joke. Cole won b/c of the Luke Bryan machine. Not cool.

Yes, as long as fans can vote for any of the awards like that, it will be whomever has the most engaged fans who wins.

I just came from the Country Universe site and a lot of them were slamming the award show, but I thought it was pretty good.....minus some of the pop duets (Dan + Shay and Jonas...yuck! I enjoyed a lot of the performances and the opener was great with Eric & Keith, Reba was just plain awesome and can't even get played on Country radio, loved George's performance , B&Ds, and Alan Jackson!! LBT was fantastic. I will be glad when the country genre stops making up awards for Taylor and just let her stay in pop where she fits in better. Sorry, but she is just so annoying and I just don't believe her act. Some headlines reading, Taylor's Mom stole the show.....well, not in my book. She just repeated everything Taylor has been saying for years and it's old. Sorry the woman has health issues, but she did not steal the show!

Luke Bryan won EOTY just minutes before midnight eastern time Sunday night, which was the cutoff time for last week's chart, though I will admit you would assume him simply hosting the song would be enough to boost his numbers. The bigger sales boosts will take place on next week's charts, which will measure this week's full week of impact after the ACM awards. The small impacts you see on this weeks chart are from only three to four hours right before the chart week ended, and right now it looks like "Girl Crush" is on its way to having a huge week in downloads. While it hasn't reached Spotify's Top 50 yet ("Take Your Time" is bubbling under), "Girl Crush" is projected to have sold over 90,000 downloads last week. For this week, two days after the ACMs, the song is down to 45.97% of the total downloads sold, the lowest so far this week, of "See You Again." SYA sold around 477,000 copies two weeks ago, and is projected to have sold 400,000 copies last week (reflected on the BB Charts released Wednesday/Thursday), so selling almost half of SYA's total is incredible for a Country song not in its first week of release.
