The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams To Release Solo Project

The first single from Joy Williams new album, Venus, which will hit stores this summer via Sensibility Music/Columbia Records finds the former member of The Civil Wars stepping back out into the solo world she once occupied prior to breaking out with the duo’s Barton Hollow in 2011 and their self-titled The Civil Wars album in 2013. That album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

Of the single, Joy comments, “The entire song is what it's like to experience the beauty, the spark and strength of what it is to be inside your skin. It’s a song with energy and fire. I wanted to own the complexity and the three dimensional aspect of what it is to be a woman. ‘I am a universe wrapped in skin’…That’s one of my favorite lines from the new album. I’m excited about being a woman. I’m excited to be where I am now, who I am now.”

In advance of the release, Joy will perform three special shows this spring—her first official performances since November 2012—May 6 at London’s Islington Assembly Hall, May 14 at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre and May 19 at L.A.’s El Rey Theatre. Tickets are on-sale this Wednesday, April 1.

Additional information surrounding the album will be announced shortly.
