Hello! I'm a big fan of Ray Stevens...I like reading any sort of promo/publicity out there on his current CD. He didn't exactly write all 12 of these songs, though. He produced the sessions and arranged the songs (as he does on all of his albums) and almost all of the songs are published by him, too. He co-wrote 2 of the songs: The first single "Taylor Swift Is Stalking Me" and "You Didn't Build That". His co-writers on those songs were Chuck Redden and Buddy Kalb. Ray played piano, organ, keyboards, synthesizer, and other piano-family instruments. Buddy's been Ray's main writer for more than 30+ years...Buddy and his wife, Carlene, wrote "Mississippi Squirrel Revival", for example. In recent years Matt Cline, Max T. Barnes, and Chuck Redden have supplied Ray with songs in addition to those that Buddy supplies Ray with. Given Ray's notoriety as a songwriter the general public perhaps assumes he writes everything he sings. That used to be the case back during his early years...almost all of the songs on his early to mid '60s albums were self-penned and much of his single releases during that period and into the late '70s were self-penned...but by the early '80s he started to record songs from other writers with more and more frequency. I'd say he's much more into producing, arranging, and song publishing than songwriting at this stage of his career.
