Country Music's Top 30 Digital Singles: Week of January 16, 2015

Sam Hunt leads the way while Reba and Little Big Town debut with their latest hit singles.

Proving how much mass-appeal he already has, Sam Hunt has ascended to #1 on the Top 30 Digital Singles Sales chart with "Take Your Time," Given how the song is still very young on the charts (at #26 on radio in nine weeks), the sales of the track are ridiculously strong for such a young artist. The sing-song-y nature of the track probably does appeal to younger fans but so did Tim McGraw's recent multi-week #1 hit "Shotgun Rider." The single, the third from Sundown Heaven Town sits at #2 this week and has now scanned Gold (it was certified last week). Carrie Underwood's fantastic "Something In The Water" sits at #3 after a few weeks at #1. The single has now scanned 746k tracks and is well on its way to being certified Platinum (which'll happen sometime around the beginning of April). Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe's "Lonely Tonight" hits the Top 5 with sales now at 255k to date while Florida Georgia Line's "Sun Daze" continues to make all the right moves on to at least an eventual Gold certification (it's also Top 10 after 14 weeks at radio). "Sun Daze" rounds out the Top 5 of this week's Top 30 Digital Singles sales chart.

Top 10 Notes

Eric Church's fantastic "Talladega" (currently Top 5 on radio) starts off the #6-#10 part of the Top 30 Digital Singles sales chart this week. He has now sold 372k copies of the fourth single from The Outsiders. Chris Young's fast-rising "Lonely Eyes" is at #7 with sales now at 219k. The song looks like a good bet to go both #1 on the radio charts AND get certified Gold. at #8 is Luke Bryan's "I See You." The song is already Top 10 and is the 6th single from his juggarnaut of an album Crash My Party. The song has risen so fast that downloads haven't been able to catch up with it but it still is nearly 300k downloaded. This was also the case for the last single, "Roller Coaster." The Top 10 of this week;s Top 30 Digital Singles sales chart concludes with Lee Brice's Drinking Class" at #9 and RaeLynn's "God Made Girls" at #10. Both songs seem like good bets to be Gold (both are just now Top 20 at radio).

Notable Track Notes

The Notables for  Top 30 Digital Singles sales chart begins this week with Jason Aldean's "Just Gettin' Started" at #11 and "Burnin' It Down" at #12. Reba debuts with "Going Out Like That" at #13 with 21k downloads, not a bad number for an "old" artist.  Sam Hunt's "Leave The Night On" is nearing Platinum certification and is one of two songs in the  Top 30 Digital Singles sales chart this week but the rising star also has five other songs within SoundScan's Top 100 downloads this week. The most tracks for any artist inside the Top 100 and all but 3 of the tracks from Montevallo. Jake Owen's "What We Ain't Got" is up next as is Luke Bryan's "Play It Again," a single now Joining his 'duet' with FGL, "This Is How We Roll" as Double Platinum. Finally, Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" jumps into the Top 30 and looks like maybe the band and Capitol were right to release such a powerful ballad as it's racing up the charts too.

I should have spoken more clearly. I know "This Is How We Roll" and "Play It Again" were both label decisions and not Bryan's, and that is what I had intended to say. But I was less than clear in my wording. Sorry about that!

  • Jacob Sudduth

How much do you project Homegrown to sell this week? Just wondering. And are you going to do a single review of Homegrown?

    • Matt Bjorke

It's likely to sell decently. I don't know if that'll be enough to debut #1 but I suspect it'll be near the top of the charts

Thank you Matt! Luke Bryan's "Play It Again" finally goes Double Platinum next week! If only his label had sent this highly superior song to Hot AC and AC when it was already receiving unsolicited airplay at the formats instead of attempting that mediocre crossover with "This Is How We Roll" we could have had one of the biggest Country Crossovers of the 2010s.....
