Tim McGraw Feels Like He Has "More To Learn”

"I have a lot left," says McGraw. "I feel like I’m a learning, growing artists that still wants to get better.”

With the four week #1 success of “Shotgun Rider,” Tim McGraw enters 2015 with one of the biggest radio hits of his career (and best success since 2004’s "Live Like You Were Dying”), "It's a good way to end the year, and a good way to start it off," McGraw told Rolling Stone Country.

The superstar had been holding onto the tune for a good while before adding it to his album Sundown Heaven Town. “The first thing that comes to me when I am developing an album in my head are sounds and colors, he says. “There’s a breeziness I wanted this song to have.”

The song is McGraw’s 27th #1 hit on the billboard Airplay chart, more than any current artist. He’s looking to continue that trend with his next single, the ballad “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools." The song features his sister Catherine Dunn on harmony vocals.

When it comes to discussing his successful career, McGraw states simply that he’s not paying attention to the mainstream trends at country radio because, “…I’ve been around long enough that I have seen quite a few come and go…but I’m influenced by the things that I hear.” He also feels like “I have a lot left. I feel like I’m a learning, growing artists that still wants to get better.”

“I want to prove that to myself. The minute I feel like I have done all I can do and don’t have anymore to learn, I probably shouldn’t do it anymore.”
