Country Album Chart Report For December 17, 2014

Carrie Underwood leads the sales report this week with nearly 100k downloads of her first Greatest Hits project.

It's a bit week for country music's Christmas-related material but Carrie Underwood also comes in Top 5 all-genre with her Greatest Hits: Decade #1. Garth Brooks' Man Against Machine is at #2 and has sold 373k to date. Not bad considering he's selling on his name without any real digital influence (these are all physical sales numbers as the Bundle sales from GhostTunes haven't been reported to SoundScan yet). #3 finds Jason Aldean's Platinum-certified Old Boots, New Dirt while #4 holds Florida Georgia Line's Anything Goes. Darius Rucker's Home For The Holidays rounds out the Top 5. It has scanned 126k to date.

Top Ten Recap

George Strait's The Cowboy Rides Away shifts 20k units to move up to #6 this week. It has now sold 230k to date in both regular and deluxe edition (which includes a DVD) forms. How can Eric's album be ceritified Platinum if it only scanned 788k?

    • Sam

Oh, so what is the normal scanned amount to get an album to Platinum...do they not count Digital downloads either?

    • Matt Bjorke

RIAA certifies albums for sales sold to retail stores, not scanned units counted by SoundScan. Jason Aldean's album is ALSO certified Platinum. The RIAA counts the retail store purchases because they're technically 'sold' once (just at wholesale prices).
