Story Behind The Song: Rose Falcon & Jake Etheridge - "Where Oh Where"

The popular singer/songwriters exclusively discuss new single's creation.

Rose Falcon and Jake Etheridge have written and recorded a brand new song, "Where Oh Where." While it's been some time since Falcon has released new music, she decided to share exclusively with Roughstock the brand new track as a special thank you to her fans. Roughstock recently chatted with Falcon and Etheridge about their new song, and here is what they had to say!

"What I love about this song if I might say so myself, is that it's not cute or clever, doesn't have a big hook, it's just pure honesty and I think people relate to honesty," explains Falcon.

"It's been said that country music used to be about little things that happened throughout the week and now it's primarily about the big weekend events. Of course, being a co-writer on (Eric Paslay's) 'Friday Night,' I'm a big fan of carefree songs about the weekend, but my true passion lies in taking a moment or feeling that may have otherwise gone unnoticed and giving notice to it, capturing it for three minutes and hoping that I've put my finger on a thought or feeling that hits home with the listener."

"Sad songs are always my favorites," adds Etheridge. "In a way they make me very happy. I remember writing the song, and it coming so easily to us. I think songs can come to you without struggle when you’re close with your co-writer and the idea is a good one. In this particular case, I believe both are true."

"'Where Oh Where' is in essence a song about that day you wake up and realize that 'loving feeling' has vanished," Falcon continues."Haven't we all experienced that at one time or another? Jake and I are not just co-writers, we are friends and I think when you know someone well, you get to a place in your writing that feels natural, almost like writing by yourself. It helps to be on the same page when you are co-writing, and I think it comes across in the vocal as well.

"Jake is releasing an album in the near future, and I'm working on a new album as well, but wanted to give my fans some music in the meantime," adds Falcon. "It's been too long! My fans have hung in there, and have been so loyal and supportive. I really wanted to give them something from my heart, something I love, something real. I have done a lot of different things musically, but I feel that my fans connect most to my songs that are more intimate, showing vulnerability. I feel like females don't show enough vulnerability these days. It's all, 'I'm gonna tear your s--- up and show you who's boss. I'm over it.' Whatever happened to 'Stand by your Man' or Skeeter Davis' 'End of the World'?  That's more my speed. I'm not always super woman; let's get real. We ache, we cry, we hurt -- man or woman -- we're human, and that's what makes us who we are. So this song is a little piece of who I am. Enjoy!"
