Country Album Chart Report For November 19, 2014

Garth Brooks leads the way with an underwhelming opening week for his new album "Man Against Machine."

Garth Brooks may not have sold the 300-400k that people were expecting (who outside of Taylor Swift, Eric Church or Jason Aldean does anymore?) but with 119k scanned, he still sold quite a few records last week (and they're records too since the project was only available at GhostTunes and that sales data is unknown at this point). Man Against Machine marks Brooks' first album of new material to hit the market since 2001 (his box set released to Walmart in 2013 was a 4 disc set of cover tunes, it has scanned nearly 1,000,000 copies to date). Sitting at #2 this week is George Strait with The Cowboy Rides Away. The album rises thanks to the deluxe release of the CD with a DVD of the special which aired on CMT earlier this year. This deluxe edition is only available at Walmart stores. Jason Aldean's Gold-certified Old Boots, New Dirt has continued to sell and has 529k scanned to date. Florida Georgia Line have scanned 345k copies of Anything Goes while Zac Brown Band's Greatest Hits So Far debuts at #5 with 20k fans taking home the 14 song collection of nothing but hit singles (11 of them #1 singles). The album is the band's final for Atlantic Records. Their next album will be issued through Universal Republic/Big Machine Label Group's Dot Records.

Top Ten Recap

Sam Hunt slides into the #6 slot but he's now scanned 112k copies of Montevallo in just three weeks on the chart. Darius Rucker's Home For The Holidays continues to sell and has now moved 30k in three weeks on the charts (gaining sales figures with each week). It might just be 2014's Country Christmas album of the season. Luke Bryan's Crash My Party is next with sales over 2.214 million. Blake Shelton is at #9 with sales surpassing 201k while Little Big Town's Pain Killer is at #10 with sales now at 72k after one month on the charts.

Notable Album Recap

There's quite a few notable albums this week with some yuletide and catalog albums getting a look-see. Kenny Chesney's The Big Revival has scanned nearly 240k to date. Miranda Lambert's Platinum is still Gold and no doubt it'll hit Platinum before the album's release cycle ends in 2015 or early 2016. Brantley Gilbert's Just As I Am is next with sales at 640k while Garth Brooks multi-platinum The Ultimate Hits' RCA remastered edition hits 55k and will undoubtedly be a consistent seller for the Christmas holiday season. Speaking of Christmas, Blake Shelton's GOLD-certified album Cheers, It's Christmas is next on our rundown, followed by Duck Dynasty's Duck The Halls, Lady Anteblelum's On This Winter's Night and Martina McBride's White Christmas.  Finally, we have the four most-recent Taylor Swift records data for y'all. 1989, her three week old releasehas scanned nearly Double Platinum with another 300k to her credit.

Call me a crazy chart watcher but I look forward to the single report every Wednesday. Kinda sad I have not seen it yet. Any news on that front?

Coming soon. Staff has been crazy busy this week getting stories ready (like a great one about Jake Owen's new single/video) for future publication.

I know the new formula won't affect the Country Album Chart right away, but what do you think about the new configuration of the Billboard 200 that debuts in two weeks, with the streaming and download sales added to the CD sales?

Thanks for the sales figures. Looking forward to the digital singles sales figures.

So this year no platinum cds and the only newly released gold albums are Church, Aldean, Miranda and Gilbert. Funny they also had the biggest first week numbers as well.
