Country Album Chart Report: November 5, 2014

"Montevallo" makes waves with biggest chart debut for a new artist in 2014.

With 70,000 copies scanned last week, Sam Hunt debuts at #1 with Montevallo. The album's sales were more than any other new artist to release an album in 2014, surpassing Cole Swindell's 63k record set in February of 2014 with his self-titled album. Hunt also debuts at #3 on the all-genre, tying both Swindell and Chase Rice's Ignite The Night for best new country artist debut on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart. Jason Aldean sits at #2 with Old Boots, New Dirt while Florida Georgia Line sits at #3 with Anything Goes. Little Big Town's at #4 with Pain Killer while Luke Bryan rounds out the Top 5 with Crash My Party, an album now on its 6th official radio single.

Top Ten Recap

His previous album, The Given, was issued through Sony Nashville. Lady Antebellum's 747 rounds out the Top 10 this week and has sold 132k to date.

Notable Album Recap

Taylor Swift is a notable album with her 1.287 million seller 1989. That's a remarkable number and it goes to show how fans will still buy something if the artist makes it compelling enough to do so. Home Free's yuletide album Full Of Cheer debuts with 6,100 fans taking the album home while Stoney LaRue's Aviators debuts with 5,300 copies scanned. The Lacs' Nothing In Particular, a bits and bobs album of rarities sold 4,600k, the same amount as Miranda Lambert's nearly Gold Platinum, an album which will likely jump into the Top 10 next week thanks to the CMA Awards.

Sturgill Simpson's Meta Modern Sounds In Country Music remains a popular disc with sales now at 46,800 for the respected indie artist. Joey+Rory have sold more than 2,200 copies of Country Classics but it's the first time the disc has showed up on this rundown (it spent 5 months exclusively on Cracker Barrel shelves). Keith Urban's Fuse has now moved 401,500 copies while Scotty McCrerey's See You Tonight has moved 254,400.

I hope I'm wrong but it does not look like Sam hunt is performing at the CMA's. I know he would not be up for any awards this year but he could still perform. The hottest new male artist of your genre and no invite to perform. Does not make sense. Any thoughts on this Matt?

They wanted performance slots for Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor, I guess. Trainor made a little sense cause she was/is based here and has songs recorded by country artists. Grande was just the CMA and/or TV Network trying to make "non-country" fans watch the show or afraid that the talent of Country (most of which is already very pop-leaning) wasn't strong enough to not have these 'special moments.'
