Having a successful single is nothing new to Chase Rice the songwriter. However, Chase Rice the singer is a new accomplishment. Rice will get to hang a Gold plaque on his wall now, but this one is not linked to him co-writing Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise." Rather this plaque will be for his own current single, "Ready Set Roll."
The tune has officially sold over 500,000 copies to date, giving him a definite hit of his own.
“I remember the day we wrote ‘Ready Set Roll,’" says Rice. "[It was] the first time I ever wrote with Chris DeStefano and Rhett Akins, and I just had the feeling that, ‘man, this song could be huge.’ There’s just something about this song that works for me, whether people do or don’t like it -- for me, there’s something special about it. And hopefully I was right about that, because now I’ve got my first Gold record.”
Still hot on the country charts and just shy of the Top 20, “Ready Set Roll” has already sold more than 500,000 units thanks to early airplay on SiriusXM's "The Highway" where it has already topped their Hot 30 Countdown. The single, which Rice wrote with DeStefano and Akins, is the first single from his forthcoming full-length album. The single debuted at the top of the iTunes Country Songs chart when it was initially released as a digital single on Rice’s Ready Set Roll EP last October.
“That’s unbelievable to me, as an independent artist -- we’ve got Columbia pushing [‘Ready Set Roll’] up the charts -- but to do it the way we’ve done it, underground, without a label, having so many people tell me I was crazy for how I was doing it – to do it that way and now to have a Gold record is unbelievable,” Rice adds. “And this song still has a lot of life left on it – hopefully we can go for Platinum now!”
