Miranda Lambert, songwriters Toast "Automatic" #1 Success

Earlier this week, Miranda Lambert, Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby were honored with a #1 party for "Automatic." See what the star and her songwriting pals had to say.

Miranda Lambert celebrated the chart-topping success of her hit "Automatic" with co-writers Natalie Hembyand Nicolle Galyon at a sock hop-themed party in Nashville on the evening of Monday, June 30. The venue was decorated to look like a high school gym, complete with a pink and black balloon archway at the entrance. Guests arrived sporting poodle skirts, varsity jackets, horn-rimmed glasses, cuffed blue jeans, and other forms of attire evoking 1950's nostalgia.

Lambert, Hemby, and Galyon - decked out in period "Easter dresses," as referenced in the song - were all presented with medallions honoring their achievement, and each writer gave a brief acceptance speech.

"Thanks for being good sports and dressing up for this sock hop," Lambert told guests. "I told Nicolle and Natalie that if this song went to number one we'd have a sock hop to celebrate, so we did!" Lambert was also presented with a plaque honoring the number-one selling success of her new album Platinum on both the Billboard Country Albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200.
Troy Tomlinson, president and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, Lambert's publishing company, pointed out that the day marked the twelfth anniversary of Lambert's signing with the company. As a special commemorative gift, he presented the reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist Of The Year with a vintage 1955 RCA record player, complete with a matching carrying case and a collection of 45 rpm records of classic hits by Sony writers.

Nicolle Galyon was also honored for co-writing "We Were Us," Lambert's chart-topping duet with Keith Urban, which marked Galyon's first number one hit as a writer. BMI executive Jody Williams presented Galyon with an acoustic guitar - BMI's traditional gift to songwriters who have enjoyed their first number one hit.

As she gave her acceptance speech, Galyon recalled attending the number-one party for Lambert andHemby's co-written hit "White Liar." "I thought to myself 'Those girls have it all,'" said Galyon. In a voice cracking with emotion, she added "And now I'm one of those girls."
