Single Review: Little Big Town - Day Drinking

Little Big Town return to the radio dials and internet streaming services with "Day Drinking," their first single from their upcoming album that follows-up their star-making Tornado and "Pontoon" recordings.

With “Day Drinking,” Little Big Town returns to the charts with a song that splits the difference between what brought the group to Country music’s attention in the first place, those harmonies, and songs like “Pontoon,” the more hook-laden, pop/rock-leaning songs which also featured innovative production from Jay Joyce. “Day Drinking” has a whistle as part of their chorus which makes the song instantly memorable (and different for Country radio).

The production from Joyce once again is right in a strong, easily digestible pocket with “Day Drinking” benefitting from Joyce’s strong guitar solo and percussive production tendencies which only enhance the summery good time vibes of the lyrics of “Day Drinking.”

This song likely isn’t going to win Little Big Town any awards for best-written song come award season time but it could definitely wind up on a Single of the Year list as it’s unique and different, all things which make the song certain to be a big hit in the Summer of 2014.
