The slyly romantic “Cold Beer With Your Name On It” helped re-establish Josh Thompson’s viability with mainstream Country radio and fans and now he’s going for the jugular with his follow-up single from Turn It Up, his sophomore album and first for Show Dog-Universal.
Quite simply, “Wanted Me Gone” is the kind of fun summer-time song that we’ve come to expect to hear over the years and the fact that Josh and his co-writers crafted a song which has a catchy chorus that gets welded to your brain only enhances the song’s appeal. The song tells a story of a man who gets ‘revenge’ on his old flame by rejecting her the way he wanted her to but when she finds out, she wants to get back together.
“Wanted Me Gone” is a playful and downright fun take on a break-up song and how a man decides to move on from the relationship he originally didn’t wanna leave. Hopefully radio will eat this single up as it deserves to be one of the Summer 2014’s biggest hits.
