Country Music's Top 10 Albums: The Week Of May 21, 2014

Rascal Flatts Enter Chart at #1 for 8th Consecutive time, a record for country music. Dolly Parton, Sturgill Simpson also debut high. See complete Top 10 and more here!  

Another week, another new #1 as the new releases keep flying off the shelves. Rascal Flatts hits #1 with “Rewind.” Dolly Parton scores Highest Debut Ever in Top 200!

With “Rewind,” Rascal Flatts hits the #1 slot of the Top Country Albums chart for the 8th consecutive time. While the opening sales number of 63k isn’t nearly as high as some of their previous debuts(“Me An My Gag” debuted with 721k in 2006, it’s still a solid number in 2014. Dolly Parton debuts at #2 with “Blue Smoke,” ana lbum which already has hit #1 in Australia, New Zealand and Top 5 in the UK. It also is her highest-ever debut on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart for all genres, besting 1980s “9 To 5 and Odd Jobs” by 5 places. 2011’s “Better Day” debuted at #11 and #51, respectively. Last week’s #1 “Storyline” from Hunter Hayes sits at #3/#9 this week while at #4/12 is Luke Bryan with “Crash My Party,” giving country music ..." of the Top 12 of the All-genre albums chart and it stays that way for the entire country Top 5 as Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s To The Good Times” sits at #5/15 this week.

Keith Urbans “Fuse” rises even higher int0 the Top 10, and even returns to all-genre Top 20.

Keith Urban’s “Fuse” returns to the Top 20 in the all-genre chart for the first time since early in its lifecycle thanks to a boost from American Idol (where he performed). The album sold 13k, more than double (120%) than what it sold last week bringing the scanned number for the album to 354k in 36 weeks on the charts. Eric Church is at #7 on our Country albums rundown with The Outsiders. it moved another 9k (its first time outside the 10k number since releasing 14 weeks ago) and has now moved 582k -- the best-selling Country album of 2014 -- so far. Sitting at #8 this week is the second volume of the 2nd season of Nashville’s TV soundtrack. it has now sold 24k to date (though its singles featured within it have sold even more indiviually). sitting at #9 is Blake Shelton’s “Based On A True Story” while #10 is Dierks Bentley’s “Riser.” which

Notable albums include Sturgill Simpson’s sophomore album “Metamodern Sounds In Country Music.”

Sturgill Simpson may not get much in the way of radio hits at the moment but the honky tonker still has a notable album as his sophomore album debuts at #11 on the Country chart and #59 overall, outselling much bigger names and proving that DYI country music is pretty viable in its own right. His debut from 2013, “High Top Mountain” didn’t hit the Top 50 of either chart. Brantley Gilbert’s “Halfway To Heaven” retains a 5k sales week and is sure to sell even more this week with his new album “Just As I Am” now in stores.  Cole Swindell’s self-titled album sits at #79 on the all-genre chart this week with sales at 164k to date while Jake Owen’s “Days Of Gold” sits at #137 with sales at 142k to date. Thomas Rhett rounds out our rundown of Notables with another 3k to his debut “It Goes Like This.” The album has moved 166k to date.

 

Other Ablum notes: Dan+Shay surpass the 60k mar kn their 7th week with “Where It All Began,” Jerrod Niemann’s “High Noon” has moved 42k in 8 weeks, while Wille Nelson’s “Super Hits” catalog title has now sold over 2.6 million copies to date. Kacey Musgraves has now scanned 417k copies of “Same Trailer, Different Park.”
