"Blue Smoke" Gives Dolly Parton Best Career Placement On Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart

The defintition of a Country Music Icon, Dolly Parton scores her biggest solo position in her storied recording career.

Dolly Parton is back with her first album of new material since 2011, and she's received a warm reception from Country fans with her new set Blue Smoke. The new album has become her highest-charting solo album to date on the Billboard 200 with a debut of #6, while landing at #2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart.

Surprisingly, Parton's only previous appearance in the Billboard 200's Top 10 was with 1987's Trio, a collaborative project with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, which reached a chart peak of #6 on May 2, 1987, after earlier debuting at No. 38 on March 28, 1987. A few years earlier, Parton barely missed the Top 10 with 1981's #11-peaking 9 To 5 And Odd Jobs, which featured the crossover smash "9 To 5."

“I am glad that people are enjoying the music from my new Blue Smoke album. It feels great to be in the Top 10,” saysParton. “It’s always an honor to know the fans spend their hard earned money on my music. Thanks, everybody!”

Though this is only Parton's second Top 10 appearance on the all-genre Billboard 200, she boasts a whopping 42 Top 10 albums on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, six of which have reached #1. On the Hot Country Singles chart, she holds the all-time record among women for number one hits with 25 - a further reflection of her status as one of Country Music's most beloved and respected living legends.
