Single Review: Jana Kramer - Love

The "Why Ya Wanna" singer charms once again with "Love." Does the song suggest that she can become a consistent hitmaker on Country radio? What two artists does the song remind us of? Is the song worth listening to and buying?

There’s an easy and likable charm to Jana Kramer’s singing. The singer — who was in the news in 2013 more for her relationship with Brantley Gilbert than her music — returns to the charts with a song which showcases her charm in spades. “Love,” a song about the firm belief in the power of love, feels like something that Sara Evans might also record and the lyrics feel like the kind of song Taylor Swift would write (without any of the cynicism of recent hits). That’s all a positive for “Love” in my book as it’s easily the best thing Jana Kramer has ever sent to radio (better than “Why You Wanna”).

The lead single from her upcoming sophomore album, “Love” places Jana Kramer on the verge of stardom as the song’s mid-tempo melody and sing-a-long lyrics (it was written by Catt Gravitt and Jimmy Robbins) fits within radio’s tight confines and as said above, it’s just so charming. Who doesn’t believe in true power of love the way “Love” chronicles it? The verses are well-written and that chorus, oh that chorus, is the hammer that drives the nail about the power of love home while the production of the track is fresh, contemporary but doesn't feel like a pop song like so many other songs do these days.

If this song isn’t one of 2014’s biggest hits by this fall, programmers everywhere will be at fault. The time is ripe for Jana Kramer to ascend to the next tier of stardom and “Love” should be the song to help get her there.
