Single Review: Maggie Rose - Looking Back Now

"Looking Back Now" is easily an early front-runner for best single of 2014. Continue on here to see why we think the song is as good as it is and why it should become the talented Maggie Rose's breakout hit.

“Looking Back Now” (written by Lisa Carver) has lyrics that many women will relate to, at least in a fantasy realm but here it finds Rose narrating as the woman on Death row paying for her own crime of taking her lying cheating husband’s life. There’s a line that manages to rhyme “sodium theopental drips” into the final verse which is perhaps one of the more unique rhymes you’re likely to find in all of country music. The melody supports the story with strong fills of fiddle and interesting echoes in places, all adding to the whole mystique of the single.

Clearly one of the best singles released in 2014 thus far, "Looking Back Now" is a single that deserves to be a massively successful hit and hopefully that’ll allow Maggie Rose to have the biggest hit of her career after the pair of Top 30 hits “I Ain’t Your Mama” and “Better” (both from Cut To Impress).
