Rosanne Cash is receiving a remarkably warm reception for her latest release The River And The Thread - her first new studio release since 2009's The List, and her first album of original material since 2006's Black Cadillac.

Upon its release earlier this month, The River And The Thread debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, making it Cash's highest charting album to date - hardly a slight accomplishment for a woman who was one of the top Country hitmakers of the 1980s. The album also reached No. 1 on the Folk Albums chart, No. 2 on the Top Country Albums chart and No. 5 on the Top Internet Albums chart. The album has maintained a Top 5 Country placement in its second week on market with total sales over 30k to date.

The album has received high praise from music critics across the board. “[The River And The Thread] paints a beautiful and complex portrait of the American South, seen through the eyes of a prodigal daughter come home,” said TIME magazine. People raves, “Here it is—the best album of 2014 (so far)!”

“Cash comes full circle as a storyteller and singer of exceptional grace and grit. It’s among her finest work in a 35-year career, assured and at ease, and one of 2014’s first great albums,” said The Boston Globe

The Los Angeles Times gave the album a four-star review, citing it as "an album we’ll be looking at in December when it’s time to single out the most powerful works of 2014.”

USA Today also awarded The River And The Thread four stars, praising it as a “captivating and sometimes haunting album that’s among the finest of her career.”

Says Associated Press, “the 11 songs blend Tennessee flattop twang with gospel, the blues, and even hints of jazz while building a bridge from Dust Bowl ballads to Dusty Springfield pop.”

Cash has been busily promoted the release with a series of TV appearances. Her recent Letterman performance of the new song "A Feather's Not A Bird," which marked her twelfth performance on the popular late night talk show, can be viewed here. In addition, Cash made appearances on The Katie Couric Show and CBS Saturday, while also guesting on Yahoo! Ram Country and on the public radio show "Q With Jian Ghomeshi.

Fans can hear Cash's new tunes live on her current North American tour, which kicked off last Saturday in Burlington, Ontario.
