Country Album Chart News: The Week of December 4, 2013: Featuring Scotty McCreery, Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Cassadee Pope, Duck Dynasty's Robertson Family

It’s been 6 YEARS since Garth Brooks topped these charts with an album and He does so here. And while that album -- The Ultimate Hits -- is included in the Blame It All On My Root box set, the other 5 discs are new material (4 CDs, 1 DVD).

After just Thursday-Sunday sales on the docket, Garth Brooks’ Blame It All On My Roots box set debuts at #1 on Roughstock’s Top 20 Country Rundown with sales of 163k for the box set. Walmart has purchased 500,000 of those albums from Garth meaning the project is already 4x Platinum eligible (or if the RIAA doesn’t count the DVDs, 3x Platinum). The previous month’s #1 album, Duck The Halls from The Robertsons of A&E TV’s “Duck Dynasty” TV show sits at #2 but still moved 136k copies of the album and are already at 389k sold in just 5 weeks. It remains 2013’s best-selling Christmas project, about 60k ahead of Kelly Clarkson’s Wrapped In Red (more on this album below).

Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party gains its best week since the first couple of weeks on the charts and is the third album on this week’s Top 5 to surpass 100k (109k). It’s now scanned 1.311 million units and is well on its way to Double Platinum. Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times has now been joined by the Deluxe This Is How We Roll edition. The album sold another 69k last week to land at #4. Rounding out the Top 5 is Blake Shelton protege Danielle Bradbery debuts at #5 with her self-titled Republic/Big Machine Records debut.

Black Friday door buster sales Jumps-off Christmas sales with Blake Shelton’s Based On A True Story leading the Second half of Country Music’s Top 10 Albums this week.

With sales of 41k (about 800 less than Bradbury), Shelton sits at #6 on the Roughstock Country Album Sales chart this week with Based On A True Story…. The album has now scanned over 1.032 million albums to date. Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away jumps into the Top 10 with sales of 24k (nearly a 600% sales increase over last week’s 3,400 units sold). She’s now moved 1.597 million copies of the album in 83 weeks. Taylor Swift’s RED has now sold nearly 3.9 million to date (in 58 weeks) and gained 210% over last week with 22k in sales this past week. Sitting at #9 is Carrie’s fellow American Idol alum, Scotty McCreery. His See You Tonight album scored a 22k sales week (231% above last weeks nearly 7k sold) to bring sales totals to 128k. Finally, Lady Antebellum scores the #10 slot this week with Golden which remains right around where it was on the Top 200 Albums last week but still sold 158% more than last week’s 8k.

There are many Notables, so many that we’re going to show a bonus 10 and 5 notables after that (which aren’t necessarily “country”). Starting with “Foreverly” from Green Day’s Billie Joe (Armstrong) & Norah (Jones).

Lady Antebellum’s On This Winter’s Night starts the 11-15 paragraph of this week’s extended - one week only - sales rundown with 20k adding to the album sales of one of 2012’s best-selling, Gold-certified Christmas albums. Like the band’s Golden, it too gained more than 155% over last week’s 8k. Darius Rucker’s True Believers sits at #12 with sales now totallying over 418k. Sales were up over 262% over last week’s nearly 5k sold. Blake Shelton’s Cheers, It’s Christmas sits at #13 with sales boost of 90% over last week’s 9k sold.The Band Perry’s Pioneer gained 450% over last week’s 3k to bring the album just outside of the Gold-scanned mark (it’s already certified Gold). Toby Keith’s 5 week old Drinks After Work sits at #15 with sales up 160% over last week’s 6k sold.  

Little Big Town’s Tornado was one of Walmart’s $6.99 door busters and thanks to that, the album sits at #16 this week with sales of 354% over last week’s 3k sold. The album has scanned over 1.025 million units to date. Keith Urban’s Fuse is next with sales increasing 145% over last week. He’s now at 222k sold to date. at #18 is Jason Aldean’s Night Train, the album has now sold 1.5 million copies since being released 59 weeks ago. Another Walmart doorbuster was Chris Young’s latest, A.M. The album is up 334% over last week’s 2,700 albums sold to 12k this week. He’s now sold 128k to date. The final album on our Top 20 journey this week is Luke Bryan’s Tailgates & Tanlines. the album jumped 242% (from last week’s 3,300 sold) to bring the star’s 2011 release to 2.202 million sold.

Notable albums this week include Kelly Clarkson's Wrapped In Red, Green Day writer/singer Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones’ Everly Brothers tribute album Foreverly.  The record sold 22k in its first week on the chart. Hunter Hayes’ self-titled platinum-certified debut is up 133% over last week with sales now at 1.034 million. Kenny Chesney’s Life On A Rock was one of Walmart’s doorbusters and the album gained 972% sales over last week’s 850 copies scanned. It’s now shifted 392k to date. Taylor Swift’s The Holiday Collection EP (a Target Exclusive since release a few years ago) scanned 9k, good for 259% sales increase and bringing her sales number to 985k. Finally, Cassadee Pope’s Frame By Frame gaines 39% over last week. Sales are at 104k total since being release 8 weeks ago.
