Jamie Lynn Spears stepped back in to the spotlight on November 26 when she released her debut Country music single, “ How Could I Want More,” complete with an accompanying Vevo video. Forced to follow in the shadow of her sister Brittany Spears, Jamie Lynn didn’t have much of a chance to become her own person. At 16, her time ended with “Zoey 101,” when she became pregnant. Left in the dust of the paparazzi, Jamie Lynn has fallen off the map … until now.
The single couldn’t be any further from the “Spears” name. The sweet, slow tempo pulls you in immediately – Jamie Lynn is all grown up and her maturity shines through the lyrics. The song, which she co-wrote with River’s Rutherford, is about a very common dilemma. With a “the grass is greener” mentality the lyrics highlight a relationship that is seemingly perfect yet she feels like she’s wanting more.
It’s good. Actually, it’s really good. There is an honest sentiment in the song, the video and Jamie Lynn’s approach to stepping back in to the entertainment industry. Her presence as an independent artist — until now — has been minimal to say the least. It’s clear that, with this single, the baby of the family has finally figured out who she is. If Country radio, the industry and Country music fans can get past Jamie Lynn’s broken past (and family pedigree), there is no reason she can’t shine in this genre with the best of them. The girl has got it together with this debut single and I’m excited to see what she has in store on her upcoming album.
