Country Icon Ray Price Dead at the Age of 87

After leaving the hospital for hospice care last week, Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Price passed away Monday afternoon at 4:43 Central Time, according to Hall of Fame radio deejay Bill Mack. He was 87 years old. Mack also said on his Facebook fan page that Ray will be buried at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.

Price, who was known for his signature shuffles, scored 20 Top 10 hits in his first years as an artist. The singer’s first success was his signature #1 hit “Crazy Arms” in 1956. The star scored other hits like “The Same Old Me,” “City Lights,” “My Shoes Keep Walking Me Back To You” and “You’re The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.” Price scored hits throughout 4 decades with “Diamond In The Stars” and “It DOn’t Hurt Me Half As Bad” his last Top 10 hits in 1981. 

Price won a pair of Grammy awards with “For The Good Times” in 1971 and one for his final album, “Last of the Breed,” a project recorded with longtime friends Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996.
