Hunter Hayes Among Top Honorees at BMI Awards In Nashville

Hunter Hayes and his co-writer Troy Verges won a major award for "Song of the Year" while Rodney Clawson, Sony/ATV Nashville and Dean Dillon were awarded the other major awards at last night's BMI Awards in Nashville. Continue on here to see all of the details from the award show!

In a festive night which saw Dean Dillon winning 2013’s BMI Icon award — while being toasted to an all-star tribute from Luke Bryan (“Unwound”), Lee Ann Womack (“An Empty Glass”), Kenny Chesney (“Holed Up In Some Honky Tonk” and George Strait performing a medley of “The Chair, Marina Del Rey” and “Here For A Good Time” — Hunter Hayes was honored with the coveted Song of the Year award for “Wanted” along with his co-writer Troy Verges.

The song from Hayes and Verges was performed by Hayes, has been certified Triple Platinum and garnered more than one million performances in 2012 alone, making it one of the most-performed songs of that year. The song is published by Happy Little Man Publishing, Songs from the Engine Room and Songs of Universal, Inc.

The event was hosted by BMI’s executive staff while Rodney Clawson was also nominated as songwriter of the year from BMI for (co-)writing six of the most-performed songs of the past year, including “Drunk On You” from Luke Bryan, “Drink On It” from Blake Shelton,” “Where I Come From” by Montgomery Gentry, “Did It For The Girl” by Greg Bates, “One of Those Nights” by Tim McGraw” and “Take A Little Ride” by Jason Aldean. 

The event also honored Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, who has continued to score with audiences with 20 of the 50 most-perofrmed songs of the year including the 6x Platinum single “Cruise” from Florida Georgia Line, Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup,” and Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” among others. The ceremony also found the songwriters and publishers of the 50 most-performed country songs of the previous year.

This ceremony is just one added part of the Country music industry’s string of events leading up to tonight’s CMA Music Awards.
