Jana Kramer Discusses Upcoming Sophomore Album

Rising star Jana Kramer is hard at work on her sophomore album for Elektra Records and she's promising it'll be a good one. Find out more about the upcoming album she's stil in the middle recording here!

On why she decided to cut her most recent single "I Hope It Rains," Kramer says, "I'll never sing something that I've never been through, so even if I didn't write it, I have to have at least experienced it, and then also feel like the fans can relate to it as well."

Why Country Music? Kramer says, "Country Music for me, why I wanted to sing it was because it helped me in so many different ways. If I was feeling sad, I'd even listen to the really sad songs to help me get out of it, or the really happy energetic songs, and I want to have fun. It helped me, and that's why I kind of wanted to give back and help other people through my songs the way it helped me."

On the songwriting process for her second album, Kramer says, "My songwriting has changed tremendously.... For my first album, when I compared my songs to the songs that were being pitched, mine were just crap compared to what they had. At first I was scared to be in some of the writing rooms because I'm with people that they've written some of my favorite songs, and I was kind of afraid to speak my mind. But now I love it, and it is so therapeutic, and with this second album, most of my songs are gonna be my songs because I had to step up and become a better writer and learn from the best. Every day I'm still growing, but what I know is you write what you know and you write what you feel and write what you lived and what other people have lived. It's definitely very therapeutic and fun."

Kramer also dishes on a few of the tracks that will appear on her next album.

"I have a song that's called 'Don't Touch My Radio,' which I love. It's fun," she says."I just want this album to be 100% completely who I am. You know the sassy songs, and then we've got kind of the darker side and the sweet, and then I have a ballad on their called 'Shattered.' So it's just one of those things where I want people to feel every single emotion. We're still trying to create the second album right now, and I'm still writing a bunch, but there's definitely some songs on there that I'm like 'Those are gonna be on the album!'"
