Album Review: Sam Riggs and the Night People - Outrun The Sun

Sam Riggs and the Night People come fully formed with a dynamic frontman with the songwriting and vocal moxie required to make waves.

Sam Riggs has a voice that’s edgier than typical Country singers but it is an instrument that’s able to stretch and chase notes a la Lonestar’s Richie McDonald. Songs like “Hold On And Let Go” showcase the strong voce while “Someone Else’s Love Song” feels stretches his voice in a contemporary, mainstream-accessible way. In fact, this is a tune that could easily become a hit on radio if released. Speaking of hits “Long Shot” and “Collide” both are strong showcases of Sam Riggs’s talent while “When The Lights Go Out” showcases Riggs’ strong storytelling and songwriting ability.

There’s really not a bad track to be found on Outrun The Sun and for a first full-length effort, that’s a remarkable thing for a previously unknown to me band. There’s a depth and complexity to much of what’s presented on the album and there’s a highly good chance that Sam Riggs And The Night People will become the next big thing to break out from Texas. The album is that strong.
