This week, I put 10 more songs under the microscope including “Compass,” the latest from Lady Antebellum. Also, I look at the new singles from Kacey Musgraves, Tyler Farr and Justin Moore in addition to the debut singles from Dallas Smith, Johnny T and new stuff from rising stars Chase Rice, Aaron Watson, Glen Templeton and Logan Mize.
Aaron Watson - “July In Cheyenne” (HTK Records):
Tender and sentimental story song that pays tribute to one of rodeo’s finest stars. Aaron’s vocal is equally heartfelf as the lyrics.
Chase Rice - “Ready Set Roll” (Dack Janiels Records):
From one of the writers of the mega-hit “Cruise,” a song that has an equally infectious beat – along with lyrics that you will no doubt be singing along to.

Dallas Smith - “Tippin’ Point” (Republic Nashville):
The production of the song (from Joey Moi) is nothing new....but Smith possesses a fabulous voice.

Glen Templeton - “Ball Cap” (Black River):
She wears a ball cap? Guess all the ideas aren’t taken. Still, a fun track.
Johnny T - “Doin’ It Like This” (LEX Music Group):
Enjoyable, but could do without all the whoop-whoops.

Justin Moore - “Lettin’ The Night Roll” (The Valory Music Co.):
A male vocalist with twang, but also contemporary without loops or production pyrotechnics. Say it isn’t so!
Kacey Musgraves - “Follow Your Arrow” (Mercury Nashville):
Country’s belle of the ball at the moment releases the song that a lot of people have been clamoring for. The lyrics sing about following one’s heart – and Musgraves makes it a pleasure.

Lady Antebellum - “Compass” (Capitol Nashville):
One of the most unique single that Lady A has released yet. Their most traditional arrangement, this one borders on an Americana-sound. It gets better with repeated listens!
Logan Mize - “Used Up” (Big Yellow Dog):
Moody Country-rocker that works, thanks in large part to Mize’s whiskey-drenched vocals. Name checks Roger Miller, which is pretty cool.
Tyler Farr - “Whiskey In My Water” (Columbia Nashville):
Another fine ballad showcase for one of 2013’s top newcomers. Could very well give him another number one!
