Album Review: Billy Currington - We Are Tonight

With We Are Tonight Billy Currington returns to the scene with a collection of what we've come to expect from billy. Except, this time, it's not mostly sad songs. As the Gold-certified hit first single "Hey Girl" proved, Billy is a man of his word with the more 'happy' mindset than past albums.

With this mindset firmly in place, Billy takes us on a soulful musical stroll with potential hits like the humorous "Wingman," the playful "Hard To Be A Hippie" and "Closer Tonight" and laid-back cover "Banana Pancakes," a song that was a major hit for Jack Johnson a few years back. Other standouts include the Troy Jones-penned "One Way Ticket" (Jones wrote "People Are Crazy" and "Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer") and the title track, "We Are Tonight," a song about living in the here and now.

Billy Currington has certainly cultivated a sound which suits him to a T. We Are Tonight mixes traditional country elements with soul elements and contemporary elements and turns it into a sound that is uniquely and unquestionably Billy Currington.
