Album Review: JJ Lawhorn - Original Good Ol' Boy

One of the younger singers to hit the Country Charts this year, JJ Lawhorn is also one of the most-talented of the genre's newcomers (of any age). Does that talent translate to Original Good Ol' Boys, JJ's debut album for Average Joes Entertainment? Let's find out!

Other standouts on Original Good Ol Boy include "You Don't Know Me Very Well," a statement song of sorts that may come off as 'cliche-ridden' to some but to me it's Lawhorn singing about what he knows and who he is which is exactly what fans want out of their favorite stars. They want singers they can relate to singing songs they also can relate to (or at least think they can relate to them) and that's what JJ Lawhorn has in spades. He is who he is and that is also showcased by his ode to his hometown "Stompin' Grounds" (written with Jeremy Stover and Jamie Paulin). "I'm Diggin' On That" is melodic and radio-ready while "She Kissed Me Anyway" finds JJ singing of a girl who likes him dirt and all. Again, we find JJ singing about what he knows and that's important for any artist, let alone an artist as young as JJ is.

Original Good Ol' Boy is produced by Jeremy Stover and like he has done with Justin Moore, the production of the album is clearly Country music (no alternative rock or Country/pop herE) and firmly plants JJ Lawhorn as an artist well worth seeking out. He's not quite where I think he can go yet but Original Good Ol' Boy definitely puts him on the right track. Fans of Moore, Blake Shelton, JB & The Moonshine Band, Randy Houser, Aaron Watson, and Craig Campbell should give the album a shot.
