George Jones’s passing last week brought country music fans together as fans flocked to the icon’s music and purchased thousands of albums, enough for two to land in this week’s Top 200 SoundScan Albums Chart. Blake Shelton Remains #1.
Based On A True Story... once again is America’s best-selling country album as all this week’s lone new release was “The X Factor” winner Tate Stevens solid debut. Blake sold 36,000 albums last week to hold down #1 while the #2 best-selling country album on the SoundSCan Albums Chart this week is The Band Perry’s month old Pioneer. The album has now moved nearly 250,000 albums in that time frame. Flroida Georgia Line remains a hot band with their Here’s To The Good Times sitting at #3 with 21,000 fans taking home the album bringing sales over 557,000 sold five months. Tate Stevens RCA Nashville debut moved 17,000, not a bad opening number considering he’s received little airplay to date and despite being the second season “The X-Factor” winner, he’s the first of the shows two champions to release an album. Rounding out our Top 5 this week is the three week old Brad Paisley album Wheelhouse. The album has sold 152,000 in those three weeks.
Country Music’s Top 10 Albums hold nearly ..." of the Top 35 albums this week; Eric Church Holds down Two of those slots.
Luke Bryan’s Spring Break...Here To Party album sits at #6 for a third week in a row on our rundown of the Top Country Albums (as charted through the SoundScan Top 200 Albums chart). the album has now sold 368,000 copies. Taylor Swift’s gargantuan album Red is next with sales now topping 3.625 million. The first of Eric Church’s two albums in the Top 10, the live set Caught In the Act, is at #8 this week with sales nearing 100,000 sold. Jason Aldean’s Night Train sits next with over 10,000 fans taking a copy of the album home while Church’s Chief (now over 92 weeks old) sold over 10,000 as well.
George Jones passed away last week and now his heirs and old record labels will benefit from the usual post-death sales bump.
We’d rather still have George Jones alive and well but since that’s unfortunately no longer a possibility, we’ll just have to enjoy his legendary music in his absence. 9,000 fans agreed as they took home 16 Biggest Hits the collection from George Jones which featured the 16 biggest hits of his career with Epic Records. That album’s sales are now over 1.181 million sold, and probably should be now chronicled as a Platinum album in Wikipedia. Jones’ other album in the five notable recordings this week is the double platinum Vol 1: The Best of George Jones which is also known as Super Hits. it has sold nearly 2.3 million albums. Other notables this week are the latest albums from Tim McGraw (Two Lanes Of Freedom), Carrie Underwood (Blown Away), and Miranda Lambert (Four The Record). Other George Jones albums appearing on this chart include The Essential George Jones with 5,000 copies sold and Hits I Missed...And One I Didn’t.
The coming week’s chart will feature Life On A Rock, the new album from Kenny Chesney.
