Keith Urban Hopeful To Return to American Idol Panel; Releases New Single

With Fox TV's 12 season of "American Idol" completed, Keith Urban remains hopeful about the prospects of returning to the program. In addition, he discusses the release of his new single and his hopes for his upcoming album for Hit Red/Captiol Nashville.

While it's been rumored that none of the panel's judges will be returning to the American Idol show next year (Randy Jackson has already said he won't be coming back after 12 years), Keith Urban hopes to get the call to return to the program, telling Billboard yesterday afternoon, "I literally enjoy coming to work every day and that's a rarity," he explained. He raved about his involvement in the show, labeling his judging style as being "part record producer, part A&R person and an artist as well."

He went on to say that judging the show was "just about seeing things about [the contestants] that are tiny little bits that they need to get rid of because they get in the way of their true talent. They are just little bad habits when you're starting out…In a lot of ways, it's just picking up on those things that I probably had when I was about that age as well."

Urban also is hopeful that fans will enjoy his new record when it's completed, stating that it's never finished until the final song is recorded; "It's hdd to know when it is [finished] because it's a process of recording a lot of different things that sort of come together," he said. "That's been my experience -- they sort of form the body of work that constitutes the album."

Look for that album to be released sometime later in the year.
