Album Review: Thompson Square - Just Feels Good

With lead single "If I Didn't Have You" inside the Top 10 and nearly Gold, the timing is certainly ripe for Thompson Square to relase Just Feels Good to stores. Read on here to see what we have to say about the husband and wife's album and if Just Feels Good avoids the 'sophomore slump.'

Thompson Square broke out in 2011 with "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" and proceeded to not only hit the Top 5 with the single but to sell more than a million copies of the song and hit the #1 slot on the charts. That success placed Thompson Square on a path to success in Country Music where the duo became the first husband and wife duo to be the reigning ACM and CMA Top Vocal Duo - in their first year of eligibility nonetheless. Now, with a couple more hits under their belt ("I Got You" and "Glass"), Thompson Square is ready to up the ante with their new album Just Feels Good.

Just listening to to the album from start to finish, it's evident the growth Shawna and Keifer Thompson have gone through since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2011. Everything about Just Feels Good is better. From the vocal performances to the song selection to the production of the production team NV (Jason Aldean's backing band). Tracks like the autobiographical "That's So Me And You" and "Here's To Being Here" showcase this while potential hits like "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About," the title track "Just Feels Good" and "Here We Go Again" are songs that any artist on a label in Nashville would be lucky to record (and a handful of them were co-written by Shawna and Keifer or both).

As good as Top 10 lead single "If I didn't Have You" is it's not even the best ballad on Just Feels Good. "I Can't Outrun You" gets that distinction. It's such a strong song that it's easy to see why Trace Adkins had previously recorded the song a few years back. "Maybe It's You" is another strong ballad as is "Run." Thompson Square's journey to where they are took quite a long time but with more strong albums like Just Feels Good it's hard to see their run of hits ending anytime soon.
