In the story of this song, it tells an introspective tale of a girl who witnesses her father leaving while a child only to see the same thing happen to her when she's older with her own daughter's father.
It's a story that is often repeated by many women because there's always the sense that a man (or anyone really) can change their ways, be it as a man 'born to run' like in this song or a man prone to cheating or other devices (like alcohol or drugs or gambling). Truisms are often mined for gold in country music and this is exactly what happens with Jaida Dreyer's beautiful ballad.
