Between a Valentine’s Day Sale for Taylor Swift’s RED at Target and the post-grammy sales bump, Taylor Swift returns to #1 this week while Tim McGraw’s Two Lanes Of Freedom drops down to #2.
Taylor Swift’s back at #1 this week with a 106% sales increase on the charts with the RIAA-certified Quadruple Platinum Red. The record with Top 5 Country Radio hit“Begin Again” and #1 Pop hits “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” has now scanned 3.4 million plus copies in 17 weeks on the charts. Tim McGraw has moved over 153k copies of Two Lanes Of Freedom in a couple of weeks. For comparison sake, his final Curb album (of new material) “Emotional Traffic” has only moved 297k in 56 weeks on the charts, a feat Tim should easily pass with “Freedom.” Hunter Hayes’ big Grammy debut (which didn’t result in any wins) was followed-up by 6 ACM Award nominations and those certainly helped his CD jump from #5 last week to #3 on the SoundScan Top 10 Country Albums Chart this week. The sales jumped 80% to give the “Wanted” and “Somebody’s Heartbreak” singer a total of 635k albums sold.
The fourth best-selling album this week is Gary Allan’s “Set You Free.” The album will soon see single “Pieces” run up the charts, with the hope of replicating the #1 Platinum success of “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain).” We think it has a strong shot of huge radio success. Rounding out the Top 5 this week is Little Big Town’s “Tornado” album. It has now sold 726k albums, making it their second RIAA certified album, after 2005’s “The Road To Here” and soon to be the band’s best-selling album. They recently scored multiple ACM Nominations for the single “Pontoon” and the “Tornado” album.
Carrie Underwood Leads Second Half of SoundScan Country Album Chart Top 10 For The Week of February 20, 2013
Carrie Underwood’s Grammy Award wins for the “Blown Away” single were followed up by Valentine’s Day last week to help “Blown Away” score a 70% sales increase over last week on the Album Sales chart. She’s now sold over 1.3 million copies of the record while Florida Georgia Line are fast-approaching a RIAA Gold certification for their debut album Here’s To The Good Times. The album has scanned 319k albums to date while “Get Your Shine On” is quickly ascending the Country Radio Single Charts to give the band a follow-up for “Cruise.”
Jason Aldean’s Night Train is continuing to sell well with its own sales increase of 19% last week to bring sales totals for the album to well over 1.13 million albums sold with “1994” set to help the album sales explode. Luke Bryan’s Tailgates & Tanlines runs at #9 (for the third week in a row) with sales approaching 1.9 million while Zac Brown Band’s “Uncaged” sits at #10 with a 116% sales increase thanks to their Grammy win for Album of the Year and of course playing in the Levon Helm tribute on the show. the record has moved over 786k with “Jump Right In” set to hit Country Radio soon.
Connor Christian & Southern Gothic Debut on Chart With “New Hometown” album.
Randy Houser leads our five noteworthy albums outside of the Top 10 with his Stoney Creek Records debut (and third record overall) “How Country Feels.” the album has moved 50,000 copies in a month on the charts and new single “Running Outta Moonlight” should only help the album approach 100k and beyond in no time. Self-released through their own Vintage Earth Records and distributed in the USA by Rocket Science Ventures and The Orchard, Connor Christian & Southern Gothic debut at #1 on the Billboard HeatSeekers chart with “New Hometown,” a record which should easily appeal to fans of Zac Brown Band or even The Band. They’re certainly an act to watch as they navigate the Country Music word with one of the early leaders for Album of the Year.
Chris Young’s Neon returns to our rundown this week with the record only 90,000 copies away from scanning Gold (it’s soon to be certified by the RIAA if we had to guess - for shipments to stores of over 500k copies). The record’s current hit is “I Can Take It From There.” Americana vocalist Kelly Willis and her songwriter husband Bruce Robison debut Cheater’s Game on the chart this week with 3,000 fans taking a copy of the album home. Rounding out the rundown this week is Dustin Lynch’s self-titled Broken Bow Records debut album. the album which features “Cowboys and Angels” and “She Cranks My Tractor” now has sold over 110k albums.
