Album Review: Jaida Dreyer - I Am Jaida Dreyer

Jaida Dreyer debuts with her first album from Stremsound Records. It's also the debut album from the record label itself. Read on here to see what we think of Jaida's debut album which includes "Half Broke Horses," "One Of Those Guys," "Confessions," and more!

Jaida Dreyer made an immediate impression last year with the single "Confessions," it showcased a talented country vocalist with attitude and loads of charm. "Half Broke Horses" is her current single and it joins "Confessions" as showcasing what a strong artist - and I mean artist - Jaida Dreyer is. She's not a carbon-copy of Taylor, Miranda or Carrie and instead is her own artist, something that is at display over the course of the 10 track debut album I Am Jaida Dreyer

"One Of Those Guys" starts I Am Jaida Dreyer off and instantly showcases the introspective songwriting style that Jaida Dreyer possesses. There's an early Sugarland-like feel to "One Of Those Guys" as well.  Jaida showcases her powerful vocal on "Bad Habits and "If That Makes You Love Me," a track she co-wrote with Jay Knowles; While "Cocaine" brings a little funky blues a la Lorrie Morgan to help balance the album out.

There's a more recent Sugarland-like feel to "If That Ain't Love," a potential radio hit. Imagine it as "Stuck Like Glue" melodically with a little "Hey Soul Sister" thrown in for good measure. If there's one reason for the song's "Stuck Like Glue" vibe, it could be that Shy Carter and Kevin Griffin co-wrote both songs. "Half Broke Horses" is a stunningly beautiful song about girls trying to break the cycle of trying to break a man of habits he'll never break. Kristian Bush Co-wrote "Boy Who Cried Love," another very strong track which showcases Jaida's talent as an artist off. He also provides a little harmony and guest vocals on the track.

I Am Jaida Dreyer is a well-written collection of songs from a talented singer who just needs to have radio help make her a star (yes, radio is still needed for this). I Am Jaida Dreyer is one of the best produced, written and performed album I've heard these past few months and certainly on the early shortlist for one of my slots on my Top Country albums of 2013 list.
