Country Album Chart News For January 3, 2013: Taylor Swift Still #1; Hunter Hayes Gold

With 200,000 plus copies of Red sold, Taylor Swift ensured that she remained the best-selling artist of the Christmas shopping season and was good enough to have the #2 best-selling album in all genres this year. Read on to find out more (including Hunter Hayes Gold Sales achievement).

With the 2012 Holiday shopping season behind us, the album charts this week reflect massive drops and if not for an Amazon sale on her album Red, Taylor Swift might have lost the #1 CD in the USA this week.

Red benefitted from a Christmas day $1.99 sale to help keep the superstar Country/Pop vocalist Taylor Swift at #1 on the charts this week with another 200k sold, a total which now brings her tally to 3.1 million albums sold this year, making it the second-best-selling album of 2012 after Adele’s 21. The Christmas album sales are pretty much done for the year with Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton experiencing large drops on the charts, giving Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line and Little Big Town the chance to return to the Top 5 of the Roughstock Top Country Albums Chart this week. Aldean’s Night Train is now over 1.02 million whilst Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away is now sitting pretty with 1.2 million copies sold. Florida Georgia Line have pushed 181,000 copies of their debut Here’s To The Good Times in just over a month while Little Big Town’s Tornado surpassed the 600,000 sales mark this week.

Hunter Hayes’s “Hunter Hayes” Scans Gold

With 515,000 copies now sold, Hunter Hayes’ self-titled debut (released in the fall of 2011), has now scanned Gold, giving the up and coming talent over 500,000 fans in the USA alone. Luke Bryan’s award-winning Tailgates & Tanlines has moved nearly 1.8 million albums to date. Blake Shelton hits the 900k sold mark with Red River Blue just as he releases a new single to country radio this week. Eric Church’s Chief sits at #9 this week with 1.3 million sold thus far while the soundtrack for ABC TV’s “Nashville” rounds out the Top 10 with sales now over 120,000.

Three Christmas Albums Round Up The Five Notables This week.

We wrap-up the 2012 Christmas shopping season with a final look at the three new Chrismas recordings this week, Lady Antebellum’s On This Winter’s Night has sold the most albums with 439,000 copies sold while Blake Shelton’s Cheers, It’s Christmas is right behind it. The third-best seller is Scotty McCreery’s Christmas With Scotty McCreery, a record which has now sold 348,000 copies to date. All three were certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 to stores. Kenny Chesney’s “Welcome To The Fishbowl” is nearing the 600,000 sales mark while Lee Brice surpassed the 300,000 mark with Hard 2 Love.

Next week’s a quiet sales week (first week of the year usually is) and that means most of these albums will just re-arrange themselves on the charts. As always, we’ll bring the news to you (This time it’ll be back on the regular Wednesday rotation!).
